Volunteer Policy

The March-Kanata Skating Club is entirely run by volunteers. In order for the club to continue to operate without being forced to raise fees and hire administrative staff, we need parents and skaters to contribute their time.

Purpose: To encourage STARSkate families to give their time freely for the benefit of the Club.

Scope: This policy concerns volunteer work toward various club activities, with examples provided below. It is completely separate from the obligation for families to play music at their child’s skating sessions.

Requirement: Every STARSkate family is encouraged to volunteer up to 5 hours (Juniors) and 10 hours (Intermediate and Senior). Anyone in the family can contribute their time. Volunteer hours by High School students can be used toward volunteer hours for school or toward the 10 hours of volunteer work per family, but not both.

Examples of Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Ice Show
  • Showcase
  • Performance Ice
  • Assistance with CanSkate Administration
  • Test Days, which include many tasks such as playing music, Ice Captain, providing hospitality (hot dishes brought for hospitality will count for 3 hours, all other items count for 1 hour).
